Time Capsule 2001

June 15–21, 2026

The Jacob Burns Film Center opened its doors to the general public for the first time in June of 2001. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of this haven for film-lovers and filmmakers alike, we’re opening up “Time Capsule 2001” to revisit films that played during the inaugural season of the Burns. From American indies like Ghost World, Waking Life, and Our Song, to international films such as The Devil’s Backbone and The Circle, to a groundbreaking documentary in Trembling Before G-D, “Time Capsule” speaks to the diversity, internationality, and adventurousness of the programming and moviegoing that has defined the Burns’ since the very start. In the spirit of time travel, and in thanks for the best audience in the world, we’re also revisiting 2001 prices.
