Director Terry Zwigoff’s iconic adaptation of Daniel Clowes’ graphic novel of the same name features career-best performances from Thora Birch, Scarlett Johansson, and Steve Buscemi, and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
Enid (Birch) and Rebecca (Johansson) are out of sync with the world around them as they try to find a place for themselves in a modern America latent with endless strip malls and fast-food chains. After graduating from high school, they face an unpleasant immediate future: crappy jobs and slim prospects for romance. While Rebecca gets a job at a local coffee franchise and starts saving for the apartment the two had always planned on renting together, Enid becomes involved with an alienated malcontent named Seymour (Buscemi). As they edge toward the unfathomable mystery of adulthood amidst a world in decline, Enid and Rebecca struggle to maintain their respective identities and the bonds that keep them sane.
In celebration of the JBFC’s 25th Anniversary, these screenings will feature our original 2001 pricing.
