Episode Three: Criminally Overlooked Films

Annual JBFC series Programmers Picks offers us the chance to share a selection of films that, for whatever reason, didn’t get the attention or audiences they deserved this past year. Using the series as a jumping-off point, co-hosts Mike Towndrow and Paige Grand Pré sit down with JBFC Senior Programmer Andrew Jupin for a conversation about their favorite overlooked films from the past year and beyond.

Episode Four: And The Winner Is…

Co-hosts Mike Towndrow and Paige Grand Pré discuss the big wins, surprises, and ceremony of the 2020 Oscars with JBFC Staffers Charlotte Exton, Sarah Soliman, and Adrienne Frank, then check to see how our predictions played out.

Episode Five: Viva Varda!

Inspired by the Jacob Burns Film Center’s Varda retrospective series, JBFC Staffer Kerry LeVielle joins Paige Grand Pré for a wide-ranging conversation on the life and legacy of trailblazing filmmaker Agnès Varda.

Episode Six: Apollo 11

Episode Six of the Jacob Burns FilmCast takes the first of many deep dives into the JBFC archives, sharing audio from a March 10, 2019 JBFC Live event. Tune in to hear filmmaker Guy Reid and Astronaut Nicole Stott discuss the documentary Apollo 11 in front of a sold-out crowd at the JBFC Theater.

Episode Seven: The Biggest Little Farm

We take another dive into the JBFC archives for Episode Seven, this time to revisit a 2019 Q&A featuring Jack Algiere—Farm Director at the world-famous Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture—who joined JBFC Programming Director Brian Ackerman for a discussion on the fascinating documentary The Biggest Little Farm.

Episode Eight: The Best of 2020 (Part 1)

We’re barely three months into 2020, but co-hosts Mike Towndrow and Paige Grand Pré are already building their year-end lists. Join us for a rundown of which movies are worth watching—or skipping—this year to date.

Episode Nine: What is Democracy?

Throughout the year, JBFC documentary series Global Watch: Crisis & Social Action works to untangle the stories behind the headlines, shed light in dark corners, and introduce us to the people working to make the world a better place. In Episode Nine of the Jacob Burns FilmCast, we dive into a conversation between filmmaker Astra Taylor and JBFC Programming Director Brian Ackerman, who discussed Taylor’s riveting—and highly relevant—documentary What is Democracy? following a Global Watch screening in January 2019.

Episode Ten: The Stay at Home Film Club

Join FilmCast Co-hosts Mike Towndrow and Paige Grand Pré for a discussion of what we’re watching, playing, reading, and doing in this time of social distancing. A podcast a day keeps the cabin fever at bay!
