A visually immaculate and deeply moving autofictional melodrama from Academy Award-winner Pedro Almòdovar (All About My Mother), Bitter Christmas contemplates the ethics of adaptation and explores the thin line between reality and fiction. The film simultaneously tells the story of Raúl (Leonardo Sbaraglia), a filmmaker who serves as a thinly-veiled stand-in for Almòdovar, and Elsa (Bárbara Lennie), a filmmaker who in turn is a thinly-veiled stand-in for Raúl in an autofictional screenplay that Raúl is writing.

"Bitter Christmas is Almodóvar at his most acerbic, unsparing and apparently confessional, exposing for all to see the ugly human costs of making art."
"Never mind separating the art from the artist, Bitter Christmas asks if it’s the artist themself that needs to respect boundaries, and at what cost. Unlike Raul, Almodovar has lost none of his ability to surprise and provoke."
