In the heart of Brooklyn, New York, five junior high school students begin the new year doing what they love best: playing chess at inner-city public school I.S. 318. As winners of more national championships than any other school in the country, I.S. 318’s chess team members face new challenges including entrance exams, school elections, friends and family, and budget cuts—all while trying to defend their national championship. Brooklyn Castle is an inspiring documentary about how young people’s perseverance on the chessboard can take them anywhere in life.
