Malcolm X

Presented on 35mm

Introduction by Series Curator Ian LoCascio

Directed by Spike Lee and starring Denzel Washington in an Oscar-nominated performance, Malcolm X is a riveting cinematic tribute to one of the great leaders of the United States’ Civil Rights Movement. Adapted from The Autobiography of Malcolm X, the film follows the iconic activist, from his early life and career as a small-time gangster to his ministry as a member of the Nation of Islam—and eventual assassination.

"The drama of Malcolm X lies not simply in Malcolm’s constantly shifting personas but in the interior journey they represent—that of a man learning to recognize (and harness) his own intellectual and spiritual powers."
Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
