A Reel Piece of History

By JBFC Marketing Volunteer Dotty Battel

Have you had a chance to go to the Jane Peck Gallery on the third floor of the theater recently?  If you have any interest in cinema history (or even if you just love film) we have a treat waiting for you!

Two exquisite classic 35mm projectors, lovingly restored by Paul M. Levine, and donated to us by the Levine family in his memory, are on display.  And interestingly enough, one of the models was manufactured right here in Pleasantville!

Until recently, the 35mm projector was the foundation of movie theater projection for over 100 years. Now, of course, it has been replaced by digital cinema projectors. Very few movie houses still occasionally present films on 35mm, and we are proud to be one of those theaters!

So the next time you come to the JBFC to see a flick, don’t miss the opportunity to check out an awesome part our shared history.
