Animation. 2014. 93 min. Tomm Moore. GKIDS. Ireland. English/Irish/French. PG.
10-year-old Ben lives with his father and younger mute sister, Saoirse, (Seersh-uh), at a lighthouse along the coast of Ireland. Upon discovering his sister to be a real live seal-child from the Irish folklore, Ben and Saoirse embark on an unexpected and fantastical journey to save mythical creatures from a powerful spell. A beautiful hand-drawn animation, Song of the Sea emphasizes the power of storytelling and explores what it means to be a family.
