Mumbling, laughing, gasps of surprise, cheering, and whispers among strangers – that’s what was happening during a Sunday afternoon screening of She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry, a new documentary about the history of the modern women’s movement. With nostalgic 70’s music and stirring archival footage of both famous and ordinary women demanding change, the film seemed to have a visible impact on the audience. It was a noisy group, but not at all disturbing!  The 92 minute film (followed by a lively Q &A) evoked spontaneous outbursts of enthusiasm, gratitude, disappointment and delight – a true communal viewing experience that was enriched by the energy in the room. This event was part of Community Matters, a program made possible through support from the Westchester Community Foundation.

The Burns will hold an encore screening of She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry on Sunday, May 3 at 12:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now.
