Doomed Lovers

By JBFC Marketing Volunteer Dotty Battel

You guessed it, Romeo and Juliet is coming to the Burns direct from the London’s Garrick Theatre, where Sir Kenneth Branagh, a master of Shakespeare on stage, has taken a year long residency.  Before reading any further, catch this awesome video of  Branagh introducing the play:

This version  of the classic tale of forbidden love, heartbreak, and revenge takes place in the Verona of the 1950s, rather than the 1590s. But the real draw here is the casting of Downton Abbey’s Lily James as Juliet and Game of ThronesRichard Madden as Romeo. You may recall that they also played opposite each other in Branagh’s 2015 movie Cinderella. Quite the switch from happily ever after!

Screened in HD black and white, the film is part of our World Stage on Screen series presenting the best of international theater and fine arts programming available on the silver screen today.

Tickets on sale now for all three screenings: Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 2:00, Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 2:00, Monday, Aug. 15 at 6:30.
