Cancelled: JBFC Camp, Grades 9-12

The JBFC has made the difficult decision to cancel all 2020 JBFC Summer Camp programs, encompassing the Viewing and Doing and On the Set experiences beginning June 29-August 14. Our decision follows Governor Cuomo’s announcement of no in-person summer school in New York State. While we know how disappointing the cancellation of Lab Camp will be to our students and their families, our top priority is the health and well-being of our students and staff. We have determined that the requirements for social distancing and frequent disinfection of the facility and equipment are just not possible for us to guarantee in our camp environment. We apologize for this disappointment and inconvenience, but thank you for your understanding as we navigate these challenging times.

Given the uncertainty ahead, we do not yet know what our programming will look like this fall. We will be in touch when we have more clarity on our Education plans.  As always, please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you at the JBFC when our doors reopen.

Entering Grades 9–12

Our exciting new camp offers a fresh approach to summertime creating. With two alternating weeklong programs—Viewing & Doing and On the Set—teens will enjoy rich opportunities to learn about media from the inside out and make a short film…and they’ll enjoy every minute!

For complete details, visit our Summer Informational Page

Viewing and Doing

Learn about media from the inside out through the JBFC’s Viewing & Doing program! Learn to watch feature films the way a director does (and write reviews!) and explore a different type of media—including animation, film, sound, and gaming—each day. In addition, you’ll participate in film-related challenges and activities as you work together in groups.

Dates: June 29–July 3, July 20–24, Aug. 3–7

On the Set

Time to make a movie! Campers write, direct, film, and edit a short collaborative film in a professional environment. Working in a group, you’ll learn to pitch and develop ideas, storyboard, design light and sound, and edit with Adobe Premiere Pro CC. This filmmaking immersion is an opportunity to see a short project through from concept to completion.

Dates: July 6–10, July 27–31, Aug. 10-14
