JBFC to celebrate 25th anniversary with gala honoring acclaimed actress Carrie Coon
Landmark evening will also honor Founder Stephen Apkon and Director of Development Judy Exton for their vision and leadership, in support of JBFC’s film and education programs
Pleasantville, NY—May 7, 2026—The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) will celebrate its 25th Anniversary with a Gala on Friday, June 12, honoring Carrie Coon, JBFC Founder Stephen Apkon, and JBFC Director of Development Judy Exton.
This milestone event will bring the community together for an evening of celebration and reflection, with all proceeds supporting the organization’s film and education programs. The Gala will include a special tribute to Carrie Coon, honoring a body of work that reflects the power of storytelling to inspire, connect, and transform audiences.
The evening will also recognize individuals whose work has brought audiences together through film and inspired deeper connection, curiosity, and lasting engagement with the arts.
Carrie Coon — Vision Award
Carrie Coon is an acclaimed actress across film, television, and theater, known for standout roles in The White Lotus, The Gilded Age, Fargo, and Gone Girl. A Tony-nominated stage performer, she has also earned Emmy, Critics’ Choice, and Golden Globe nominations for her work on screen. Carrie Coon is an engaged member of the Jacob Burns Film Center and a valued part of the Westchester community.
Stephen Apkon — Legacy Award
Steve Apkon’s vision and creative leadership have helped the Burns become one of the nation’s most respected centers for film and education. As the Founder of the Jacob Burns Film Center, Steve built a vibrant community drawn to diverse storytelling and the discovery of new perspectives, ideas, and cultures. His belief in the power of film to deepen understanding, foster empathy, inspire creativity, and connect people continues to touch all who pass through our doors.
Judy Exton — David Swope Leadership Award
After 25 years of extraordinary service as the Director of Development, Judy Exton will be retiring soon, leaving behind a lasting impact of dedication, integrity, and heartfelt connection. Through her tireless efforts, Judy not only helped secure the resources that sustained and expanded the Burns’ vision, but also nurtured the relationships and shared purpose that define our community.
“This Gala celebrates what has always been at the heart of the Burns, bringing people together through film and the conversations that follow,” said Mary Jo Ziesel, Executive Director of the JBFC. “We are especially proud to honor Carrie Coon, an extraordinary actress whose work has resonated with audiences across film, television, and stage.
We are here because of Steve Apkon’s founding vision, which imagined a place where film could open minds and build community, and because of Judy Exton’s extraordinary commitment to sustaining and growing that vision over the past 25 years. Their leadership has shaped not just an institution, but a community, and their impact continues to guide us as we look to the future.”
The Gala will take place on the JBFC campus (364 Manville Road, Pleasantville, NY) and will feature a dynamic program celebrating the honorees, with special guests and conversations, followed by a party.
The leadership for this important event includes Honorary Chair and JBFC Board member, Ron Howard, along with a robust Gala Committee, led by JBFC Board member Heidi Rieger.
Their generosity and commitment ensure that this event will be a fitting tribute to our honorees and provide vital support for the JBFC’s film and education programs.
