VIVA VERDI!

7:00 PM: Q&A with filmmaker Yvonne Russo and executive producer Simone Pero

Nominated for Best Song at the 2026 Oscars for “Sweet Dreams of Joy.”

VIVA VERDI! offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of the celebrated opera singers and musicians living out their “third act” at Milan’s Casa Verdi retirement home, which was built in 1896 by the most influential Italian opera composer of the 19th century, Giuseppe Verdi. With aging bodies and timeless passion, these distinguished “guests of Verdi,” ranging in age from 77 to 103, prove age hasn’t dulled their love of music or relentless drive to create; They are still actively creating, performing, and mentoring the 16 gifted music students from around the world who study and live among them. VIVA VERDI! is directed by Yvonne Russo and produced by Christine La Monte.

"The cinematography in Viva Verdi! is both intimate and evocative, capturing the soul of Casa Verdi and its residents with a painterly touch."
Eugenia Mosquera , Musée Magazine
"Featuring fascinating archival footage, timeless music, and a plethora of compelling subjects, Viva Verdi may have a rather narrow target audience. But boy, will it please them. We should celebrate little passion projects like this... so that folks remember our culture, our music, our past."
Alex Saveliev, Film Threat
