The September Issue

Presented in 35mm

Anna Wintour, the legendary editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine for twenty years, is the most powerful and polarizing figure in fashion. Hidden behind her trademark bob and sunglasses, she has never allowed anyone to scrutinize the inner workings of her magazine. Until now. With unprecedented access, filmmaker R.J. Cutler’s film The September Issue does for fashion what he did for politics in The War Room, taking the viewer inside a world they only think they know.

This fall, the Jacob Burns Film Center is honored to welcome documentarian R.J. Cutler. Before preview screenings of his acclaimed new films Martha and Elton John: Never Too Late, catch our one-night-only screenings of his prior films Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, Belushi, and The September Issue.

"A dishy and engrossing peek inside the fashion world’s corridors of power—every bit as slickly packaged as the publication it seeks to uncover."
Justin Chang, Variety
"A wonderful film, and one with vast appeal. Giving us everything we have come to expect from our fashion-centered programming and more, we are left with the sense that we have uncovered a mystery."
Whitney Borup, Film Threat
