In his first feature film lead role, Ron “Ronny” Howard, already known for his role as Opie in The Andy Griffith Show, stars as Eddie Corbett, the young son of widowed radio station executive Tom (Glenn Ford). After the death of his mother, Eddie is still grieving, but Tom is ready to re-enter the dating market. As his father navigates the affections of a handful of potential suitors, Eddie must adjust to these sudden changes.
