Our Song is a clear-eyed, unsentimental look at three teenage girls (played by Kerry Washington, Anna Simpson, and Melissa Martinez) who find themselves at a time of change during one Brooklyn summer. “This modest film has virtues that come out of nowhere,” says the L.A. Times; “It takes familiar material and develops it with such tact and skill that we find ourselves moved and sort of amazed at the same time.” Directed by Jim McKay (En El Septimo Dia), Our Song celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, but its sensitive yet unflinching portrayal of young women on the cusp of adulthood remains timely.
