Our Song

Our Song is a clear-eyed, unsentimental look at three teenage girls (played by Kerry Washington, Anna Simpson, and Melissa Martinez) who find themselves at a time of change during one Brooklyn summer. “This modest film has virtues that come out of nowhere,” says the L.A. Times; “It takes familiar material and develops it with such tact and skill that we find ourselves moved and sort of amazed at the same time.” Directed by Jim McKay (En El Septimo Dia), Our Song celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, but its sensitive yet unflinching portrayal of young women on the cusp of adulthood remains timely.

Presented on 35mm

This is a rescheduled screening from the previous date in August.

"Beautifully illuminates that poised-on-the-edge period of adolescence and the sad weight of leaving childhood behind."
Moira MacDonald, Seattle Times
"It's an astonishing movie, with a real-life feel."
Stephen Hunter, Washington Post
"Rich with scenes of affection, anger, and reconciliation, along with moments of unfeigned humor."
John Petrakis, Chicago Tribune
