Miss Juneteenth

A former beauty queen, now struggling to make ends meet as a single mom, prepares her rebellious teenage daughter for the “Miss Juneteenth” pageant. This debut feature film from director Godfrey Channing Peoples stars Nicole Behari (42) and newcomer Alexis Chikaeze as a mother and daughter whose bond is tested as each works to define who they are and what they want out of life. Miss Juneteenth is a quietly profound and loving depiction of a working-class black family.

As of 8/19, the JBFC is vaccinated-only for all screenings and events. Masks are required and may be removed only while seated. Proof of vaccination and a photo ID must be presented for admission. Learn more here.

"This is what I would call thoughtful entertainment. Well done and full of meaningful content."
Tim Cogshell, FilmWeek
"Miss Juneteenth benefits from subtle, offhand performances from Beharie and Chikaeze; as a portrait of a community, it's layered and rich."
Steve Pond, TheWrap
"Marking an impressive directorial debut, Miss Juneteenth is a...terrific showcase for star Nicole Beharie."
Brian Lowry, CNN.com
