When Maya Angelou died in 2014, President Obama said that the prolific and visionary singer, dancer, activist, poet, and writer “had the ability to remind us that we are all God’s children; that we all have something to offer.” This stirring documentary weaves together her words with rare and intimate archival photographs and videos to reflect on how the events of history, culture, and the arts shaped Angelou’s life—and how she, in turn, helped shape our own worldview through her literature and activism.

Friday, May 30: Annual Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department’s Firefighter Parade begins tonight at 6:00. Please leave extra time to get to your film.
