Today’s Germany could not have been imagined in 1945. Berlin is now home to Europe’s fastest-growing Jewish population, and the country is praised as one of the world’s most democratic societies and moral leaders, in large part due to its embrace of hundreds of thousands of refugees. Through intimate, personal stories Germans & Jews, explores another facet of Germany’s transformation: from keeping silent about the Holocaust to facing it head-on. What began as a private conversation between the two filmmakers—executive producer Tal Recanati (Jewish) and director Janina Quint (non-Jewish German)—and friends, grew into a cultural exchange among many. Unexpectedly, a nuanced story of reconciliation emerges. The film takes us on a provocative, surprising, and enlightening journey.
