Breaking Bread

Beth Elise Hawk’s award-winning documentary tells the inspiring story of Dr. Nof Atamna-Ismaeel, the first Muslim Arab to win Israel’s MasterChef. Convinced that cooking collaboratively can not only create extraordinary food but also change the world, she went on to found Haifa’s A-Sham Arabic Food Festival, where Arab and Jewish chefs work together to put their personal spins on traditional recipes. This inspiring, delectable love letter to Middle Eastern food and cuisine diplomacy is a hopeful look at how cooking and eating together can lead to mutual understanding.

"The visual equivalent of comfort food, Breaking Bread aims to inspire all of us. First, to open our hearts and minds to peace and inclusivity. And second, to find the best Middle Eastern restaurant within reasonable distance, and place an order as soon as humanly possible once the movie ends."
Elizabeth Weitzman, The Wrap
"Makes a mouthwatering case for dinner table diplomacy"
Michael Rechtshaffen, Los Angeles Times
“An award-winning love letter to the food of the Middle East...simply delicious”
Victoria Prever, The Jewish Chronicle
