Rebuilding Paradise: An Evening with Ron Howard
Thursday, August 13 at 7:00 PM ET
The Jacob Burns is honored and excited to welcome Ron Howard for a live virtual conversation with Janet Maslin about his timely new documentary Rebuilding Paradise. The celebrated director’s latest foray into non-fiction filmmaking (after last year’s hit Pavarotti) is a deeply empathic look at the aftermath of the epic Paradise blaze that obliterated an entire California town—the fire that reduced a community of 26,000 to ashes, killing 85, and destroying over 18,000 structures. The film beautifully chronicles the aftershocks as the remaining community tries literally to rise from the ashes, and recreate a semblance of what has been lost. It’s a tale of deep resilience and perseverance, of humanity and compassion, a story that easily stands in as a microcosm of the task before us as we wrestle with the present and future of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ron Howard and Janet Maslin are members of the JBFC Board of Directors and Janet serves as President. They are deeply committed to JBFC’s future and preserving our vibrant programs.
