Maite Alberdi: In Focus
Nov. 3–5, 2023
Maite Alberdi is one of the rising stars in documentary filmmaking. With a precise eye toward detail and character-driven storytelling, the Chilean filmmaker has made a name for herself following interesting subjects who reveal more to the camera than just themselves. Through her subjects’ respective journeys, Alberdi gives audiences a fly-on-the-wall observational view of the human condition, leading us to contemplate our relationships with one another and appreciate slice-of-life looks into worlds different from our own.
Among her growing number of accolades, Alberdi’s latest film The Eternal Memory won the Grand Jury Award in the World Cinema Documentary Competition at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2023, and her prior film, The Mole Agent, was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the Academy Awards in 2021 and is currently being developed as a fiction series for Netflix (starring Ted Danson).
Her masterful nonfiction work has made her an international sensation, and the Jacob Burns Film Center is excited to welcome her to Pleasantville for a retrospective of her features and shorts, as well as to discuss her work and craft in person.
