An Evening with Alan Cumming

On Sunday, May 5, 2019, the Jacob Burns Film Center presented the first annual Life on the Stage Spotlight Award to the incomparable Alan Cumming.

The program in Theater One featured clips from Alan Cumming’s stage, screen, and television career, as well as a lively conversation moderated by four-time Tony-winning Broadway producer, Emmy-award-winning director, and JBFC board member Dori Berinstein. In addition to recognizing Alan Cumming’s countless achievements, we celebrated his unwavering commitment to social justice, diversity, and inclusion.

Thanks to the generous support from our Life on the Stage sponsors, we were able to offer complimentary tickets to the program to many of our community partners, including The Loft LGBTQ Center, The Trevor Project, Pace University LGBTQA Center and Film Studies Department, and WESPAC.

Following the program, approximately 120 ticket buyers joined Alan Cumming and his husband, artist/illustrator Grant Shaffer for a seated dinner in the Jane Peck Gallery. At the end of the evening, every guest went home with a copy of Honey & Leon Take the High Road, the newest book written by Alan Cumming and illustrated by Grant Shaffer.

All proceeds from this truly magical event benefited the JBFC’s film, media education, and artist support programs.
