Director's Cut: Documentary Filmmaking Fellowship
ABOUT
In collaboration with NYU Tisch School of the Arts and Imagine Entertainment, the JBFC is delighted to offer a ten-week intensive documentary filmmaking fellowship for 10th and 11th-grade high school students. Led by NYU Tisch adjunct faculty and supported by industry advisors, the fellowship invites students to deeply engage in the documentary process at the JBFC Media Arts Lab campus.
Throughout the program, students embark on a journey from idea-to-screen: learning pre-production, production, post-production and presentation. As part of the experience, they work collaboratively to shape a short, interest-driven documentary film, participate in weekday Zoom sessions with Imagine Entertainment, and visit their offices in New York City for an in-person pitch session. Their culminating screening takes place at the JBFC Theater for family and friends.
Admission to the fellowship is by application only – potential fellows submit a personal statement, creative résumé, and participate in a Zoom interview. The program is offered at no cost to participants.
Key program features include:
- A $1,000 stipend to support transportation and potential missed wage compensation.
- Access to industry-standard filmmaking equipment and professional software.
- Mentorship from NYU Tisch faculty and Imagine Entertainment industry advisors.
- A polished portfolio of professional-grade work — ideal for college applications and scholarship opportunities.
