{Cinemania Student Critics} Favorite Snow Day Movie

We asked Cinemania Student Critic Andrew Torpie to share with us his favorite movie to watch on a snow day and tell us why he loves it so much. The film he chose is one that a lot of people will agree is a pop culture classic. See what Andrew has to say about Mean Girls, below:

AndrewBased on the stereotypical description of high school life in the early 2000’s, Mean Girls, which stars Lindsay Lohan, has been fundamentally successful amongst teenagers and adults alike due to its exaggerated yet conventional high school scenes. The main character, Cady Heron, is a previously home-schooled student from Africa, who moved to the United States because her parents decided that she needed to interact with other teenagers. Cady Heron immediately finds herself taken under the wings of the school’s social outcasts, who use her in their plot for revenge on “The Plastics,” also known as the notorious popular girls, who rank at the highest possible position on the social ladder of the high school. Although it has been over 10 years since Mean Girls was first released, the timeless quotes and references accumulated an enormous reaction among the teenage population, as the movie’s perception of high school life and its dynamic range of characters are impossible not to connect to, even after all these years. The Internet would not be the same without this movie—memes that depict various one-liners from the film, poking at the social hierarchy’s of high school, have flooded all forms of social media. Mean Girls has quickly became a modern classic, and has become a mark of the millennial generation.
