JBFC Mixtapes, Vol. 1: Customer Service Assistant Tara Bongiorno

JBFC Mixtapes is a new initiative from the Burns to highlight the music—from soundtracks to scores—that makes the cinematic experience so special. We’ll be updating the blog with mixtapes from staff members, special guests, and more, to drop the needle on our favorite songs from, about, or inspired by films—with a few curveballs every now and then. Our first installment comes from JBFC Customer Service Assistant Tara Bongiorno, whose mix is now live on the JBFC Spotify account! She writes:

I broke a lot of rules when making this mix. At first I tried to stay away from musicals, but that was too difficult…since most of my favorite movies are musicals. Then I tried to only use songs that were chosen for a film after the song was written, but I love too many songs  that were written for specific films, and I just couldn’t exclude them. My mixes are always eclectic—especially this one—since some of my two daughters’ favorites made it into this mix.

  1. “Drive It Like You Stole It” from Sing Street
  2. “Good Enough” from The Goonies – I loved this movie as a kid and now my daughters enjoy it just as much as I did.
  3. “In The Musicals” from Dancer In The Dark – I love anything Bjork does!
  4. “When I’m Gone” from Pitch Perfect – Another favorite in our house.
  5. “That’s How You Know” from Enchanted – Amy Adams is just brilliant and this scene puts the biggest smile on my face.
  6. “And I Love Her” from Hard Day’s Night – This was on repeat my entire childhood. Maybe not my favorite movie but can’t beat the soundtrack.
  7. “Hello Stranger” from Moonlight – Great scene in the diner by the jukebox. After seeing the movie I ran home and listened to this song over and over again.
  8. “Flicker” from Audrey and Daisy – This is an example of a song being written specifically for movie. Tori Amos wrote this after watching the documentary.
  9. “Love Fool” from Romeo + Juliet
  10. “Tik Tok” from Diary of a Wimpy Kid – Rowley’s dancing scene.
  11. “Fight the Power” from Do The Right Thing – Enough said.
  12. “You Never Can Tell” from Pulp Fiction
  13. “Protection” from Hackers
  14. “Save Me” from Magnolia
  15. “O-o-h Child” from Guardians of the Galaxy – The ultimate mix tape!
  16. “Redbone” from Get Out – Best movie of 2017 in my opinion. BRILLIANT!
  17. “Cheek to Cheek” from The English Patient
  18. “Anyone Else But You” from Juno
  19. “Purple Rain” from Purple Rain
  20. “Over the Rainbow” from my favorite move of all time The Wizard of Oz

Stay tuned for the next volume of JBFC Mixtapes!
