Presented in Memory of David Lynch (1946–2025)
In David Lynch’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner Wild at Heart, Sailor (Nicolas Cage) and Lula (Laura Dern) are two lovers struggling to remain together—even when fate seems intent on keeping them apart. In this case, fate is Lula’s mother, Marietta Fortune (Dianne Ladd); a desperate woman who hates Sailor and will do anything to keep him away from her daughter. After Sailor is released from prison for murdering a man in self-defense, he and Lula embark on a sex-filled, rocking road trip, aware all the time that they are being hunted by Marietta’s henchman Bobby Peru (Willem Dafoe).

“David Lynch is an artist’s artist and a filmmaker’s filmmaker, but above all else he saw, believed in, and encouraged the artist in all of us. How lucky we are to have shared the sky with a star that burned so bright.” Read JBFC Marketing Manager Paige Grand Pré’s full tribute to David Lynch on the JBFC Blog.
