The Macaluso Sisters

Westchester Exclusive

The Macaluso sisters—Maria, Pinuccia, Lia, Katia, and Antonella—are five young, orphaned siblings who live in and work from a shabby rooftop apartment in 1985 Palermo, Sicily. They make a living renting doves out for a variety of ceremonies; following each gig, the doves return home naturally on their own. One hot summer, a beach outing is planned on a rare day off from work. Near the close of a day full of enchantment, reverie, and close encounters with secret lovers, a shocking catastrophe transpires, and that single event will change the course of the sisters’ relationships for the rest of their lives.

"Haunting and powerful"
Beatrice Loayza, New York Times
"Dante sets a firm seal upon her cross-disciplinary emergence as a director of unusually vivid empathy."
Jessica Kiang, Variety
