The Barkley Marathons: The Race That Eats Its Young

Opening Night Q&A and Reception

In its first 25 years, only 10 people have finished The Barkley Marathons. Based on a historic failed prison escape, this cult-like race tempts people from around the world to test the limits of their physical and mental endurance. The race, created by Lazarus Lake, is a 100 mile run (and 60 mile fun run) whose course is unmarked, traverses treacherous terrain, and changes year to year (based on the whims of Lake). Through the competitors spectacular failures, and unprecedented successes, this documentary film contemplates the value of pain in a society that favors comfort.

This film is part of the We Got Game: Sports on Film series.
