The JBFC programming team is always searching for a way to screen more great documentaries. Talking Docs gives us a chance to show films we’re passionate about but haven’t been able to squeeze into our schedule—and it offers the audience a special opportunity to dig in deep along with us. Screenings will be followed by a discussion, sometimes with a filmmaker and sometimes with one of our film programmers.
Opening night is Thom Andersen’s Los Angeles Plays Itself, a gorgeous mix of montage and essay film, which showcases the role of the city through cinema history. Talking Docs curator, Senior Programmer Andrew Jupin—who says that “it’s one of the most mesmerizing, haunting, and fascinating documentaries I have ever seen, perfect to watch with a theater filled with film lovers”—has been wanting to show this gem for years. It all starts on Sept. 26.
Fall 2018 Talking Docs dates: 9/26, 10/23, 11/15, 12/11
ON SALE AS A PACKAGE PURCHASE ONLY. MUST PURCHASE ALL 4 DATES IN THE PACKAGE.
Subsequent film titles will be announced at the end of every screening by the series curator.
