Satan & Adam follows two musicians who met on the streets of Harlem in 1986. Adam Gussow, a white Jewish harmonica player who had recently graduated from Princeton, asked if he could jam with the mysterious and enigmatic one-man-band Sterling “Mr. Satan” Magee, an older black Mississippi bluesman. Against all odds, the two joined forces, made a celebrated debut record, and rose to international acclaim. But their meteoric rise was cut short when Mr. Satan mysteriously disappeared. This is “a gritty yet lovely documentary,” says the New York Times. “And even after the songs stop, the music’s bittersweet emotions linger.”
