Originally dismissed as a B movie, Budd Boetticher’s Ride Lonesome is now considered a classic, and for good reason. Tautly written by Burt Kennedy (Seven Men From Now, Welcome to Hard Times) and acted to a T by the first-class cast (Randolph Scott, Pernell Roberts, Lee Van Cleef, James Coburn), it’s the tale of a bounty hunter who stages a showdown when he learns that his latest captive is the brother of the killer he’s been hunting. The foreboding image of the “hanging tree” is unforgettable.
