Respect

Aretha Franklin (Academy Award-winner Jennifer Hudson) rises from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to international superstardom in this biopic chronicling the life of the Queen of Soul. Featuring an all-star cast including Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, and Mary J. Blige, and directed by Liesl Tommy—the first woman of color nominated for the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play (Eclipsed, 2017)—Respect is the remarkable true story of Franklin’s journey to find her voice.

As of 8/19, the JBFC is vaccinated-only for all screenings and events. Masks are required and may be removed only while seated. Proof of vaccination and a photo ID must be presented for admission. Learn more here.

"An intimate gift of love, rich in complexity, spirituality, Black pride, and feminist grit rooted not in didactic speeches but in authentic experience."
