Queen of Earth, the latest from writer/director Alex Ross Perry (Listen Up Philip), one of the most interesting directors working today, cemented itself as one of the best films I would see last year after the first ten minutes. Featuring knockout performances from Elisabeth Moss (who previously worked with Perry in his fantastic Listen Up Philip) and Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice, Steve Jobs), the film is a taut, psychological thriller that sees Catherine (Moss) head toward a complete nervous breakdown after back-to-back heartbreaking events nearly destroy her. Seeking solitude to calm her soul, she heads to the lake house of her oldest friend, Virginia (Waterston). But her quiet time in the country quickly devolves into paranoid madness as her love-hate relationship with Virginia threatens to tear them both apart. –JBFC Programmer Andrew Jupin
