Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman star in Griffin Dunne’s wry, romantic tale of two magically gifted sisters. In a small, contemporary New England town, Sally and Gillian Owens (Bullock and Kidman) carry the stigma of their family’s legacy of witchcraft. It proves particularly inconvenient in matters of love, thanks to an ancestral curse that sends any man with whom they fall in love to an untimely death. While Sally plays it safe, repelling any man who comes her way, Gillian careens from one relationship to the next, leaving carnage in her wake. But when a handsome detective (Aidan Quinn) comes to investigate a series of crimes in town, love might just find a way.

"Dunne is committed, thank good-ness, unapologetic for even the most fluttery sentiment or spookiest chill, enjoying the swellness of the very idea almost as much as any fanciful girl."
"Bullock brings the needed tone of credibility to Practical Magic, while Kidman delivers excitement and unpredictability."
