Nelly has just lost her grandmother and is helping her parents clean out her mother’s childhood home, where she begins to explore the house and the surrounding woods. One day, she meets a girl her same age building a treehouse, and the two form a friendship as Nelly grapples with the loss of her grandmother and her new friend prepares for a surgery. Director Céline Sciamma’s (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) latest film is a beautiful and moving exploration of grief, loss, childhood, and the bonds between mothers and daughters.
