Paris Blues

Diahann Carroll, Louis Armstrong, Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, and Sidney Poitier star in this beautiful film written by blacklisted screenwriter Walter Bernstein. Ram Bowen (Newman) and Eddie Cook (Poiter) are two young, handsome expatriate musicians living in Paris. At the train station, Ram meets fellow musician Wild Man Moore (Armstrong). En route, he encounters Connie (Carroll) a beautiful young woman on holiday with her girlfriend Lillian (Woodward). When Connie rejects Ram’s romantic overtures, Lillian moves in on Ram instead. Connie is smitten by the more gentlemanly Eddie (Poitier). Together this foursome, live, love and laugh in gay Paris until things get serious between Connie and Eddie. Before leaving Paris, Connie pushes him to reconsider the civil rights struggle back in the U.S. and his responsibility to their community. Eventually, Eddie will have to choose between life as a second-class citizen in Jim Crow America and the love of his life.
