Award-winning filmmaker Lynn Shelton brings her inimitable style to the story of Chris (Jay Duplass) a 38-year-old man who, after serving 20 years in prison, is granted early parole thanks to the tireless efforts of his former high school teacher Carol (Edie Falco). Post release, Chris struggles to navigate a world he barely recognizes and ends up confessing his love for Carol, who is unhappily married and longs for something her husband no longer provides. Chris’s feelings for Carol are complicated by a budding friendship with Carol’s troubled teenage daughter, Hildy (Kaitlyn Dever), who sees Chris as a kindred spirit. Anchored by incredibly powerful performances from Falco and Duplass, Outside In is a quietly profound and multifaceted love story.
