“A pitch-perfect, small gem of a film, it’s one of those wonderful films to discover.”—Brian Ackerman, JBFC Programming Director
A young Argentinian actor named Nico (Guillermo Pfening) leaves behind a role on a hit soap opera and a failed relationship with the show’s producer for the promise of New York City. Lured into believing that his talent will help him jumpstart an international film career, Nico is left flailing when his sole film prospect falls through. He bounces from one odd job to another, too prideful and embarrassed to abandon his acting dreams but struggling to cope with the alienation and aimlessness brought about by an increasingly uncertain future in the US. Anchored by an award winning performance from Pfening, who imbues Nico with a subtle yet powerful emotional depth, filmmaker Julia Solomonoff (The Last Summer of La Boyita) weaves a fascinatingly layered story of immigrant life, city life, and one man’s conflicted pursuit of love and happiness.
