Pablo Larraín has created another lyrical, poetic, and entertaining film, part fact and part lavish re-imagining of the life of the Nobel Prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda. Neruda, a member of congress and a Communist in Cold War Chile, is forced on the run after speaking out against the government. Fully immersed in the cat-and-mouse game that ensues with the police officer (Gael García Bernal) on his trail, he reinvents himself, becoming both a symbol for liberty and a literary legend. Pablo Larraín is the surprise filmmaker of the season, with two films (also Jackie) that will excite audiences with their unabashed visionary flair.
