Starring Tom Cruise and adapted from a story by legendary science fiction writer Philip K. Dick (author of Blade Runner source material Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?)—Minority Report is set in a not-so-distant future where police utilize a psychic technology to arrest and convict murderers before they commit their crime. Chief John Anderton (Cruise) is the top cop in this Washington DC “Precrime” police program, but the hunter becomes the hunted when another investigator targets him with a premptive murder charge, accusing him of the future murder of a man he’s never met.
Also starring Academy Award nominees Samantha Morton, Colin Farrell, and Max von Sydow, Minority Report envisions a future America wherein both crime and personal privacy are things of the past, exploring the impact and ethics of public safety programs rooted in widespread government surveillance.
To highlight our release of Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, the newest science fiction film from one of cinema’s great pioneers of the genre, the Jacob Burns Film Center will present screenings of a Spielberg-directed sci-fi film every weekend from May 9 through June 21 as a part of our series Steven Spielberg’s Sci-Fi.
