In the second half to the story started in Jean de Florette (both based on a Marcel Pagnol novel) Emmanuelle Béart plays the beautiful 18-year-old shepherdess Manon, who untangles the story of her family’s ruin years before at the hands of Daniel Auteuil and Yves Montand’s unprincipled farmers—and wreaks vengeance. Béart is powerful in a role made indelible by the scene in which she dances nude in the fields. It earned her a César for Best Supporting Actress.
