Described as the world’s first fully painted film, Loving Vincent traces the mystery behind Van Gogh’s tragic death by bringing his artwork to life. We follow one of the artist’s only friends, a postmaster named Joseph (Chris O’Dowd) and his son, who go to great lengths to make sure the last letter Van Gogh wrote is delivered properly. Along the way, they encounter a string of people privy to the reclusive and tortured artist’s final days. This labor of love involved over 100 painters who created oil paintings for nearly every frame of the film, some 65,000 in all. An awe-inspiring visual feast, Loving Vincent “is a fitting, miraculous tribute to its subject” (Entertainment Weekly).

This film is part of the FrameWorks 2018: Art on Film series.
