Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Cinema Studies lecture from Jeff Hughes

Raised a boy in East Berlin, Hedwig (John Cameron Mitchell) undergoes a traumatic personal transformation in order to emigrate to the U.S., where she reinvents herself as an “internationally ignored” but divinely talented rock diva inhabiting a “beautiful gender of one.”

Hedwig and the Angry Inch will be accompanied by a lecture from Jeff Hughes, graduate of the Martin Scorsese Department of Cinema Studies at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts

Jeff Hughes holds multiple degrees from the Martin Scorsese Department of Cinema Studies at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He is an award-winning theater writer and has been a working sports columnist for two decades. He is currently working on his first book, Ethel Merman and the Body Bag: The Films of Bob Fosse.

"On the screen, the rip-roaring rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch retains all the excitement and energy it had on stage while adding depth, clarity and emotional texture."
Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times

This film is part of the Cinema Studies: Movie Musicals Since 1955 series.
