Greenwich Village: Music That Defined a Generation

Q&A and Book Talk with Rolling Stone Journalist David Browne

We welcome music journalist and senior writer at Rolling Stone David Browne for a conversation about his new book: Talkin’ Greenwich Village: The Heady Rise and Slow Fall of America’s Bohemian Music Capital. To celebrate the book, we will screen the documentary Greenwich Village: Music That Defined a Generation.

Featuring poignant interviews with Pete Seeger, Kris Kristofferson, Don McLean, Peter Yarrow, Arlo Guthrie, Lucy and Carly Simon, Tom Chapin, and Judy Collins, among dozens of other music luminaries, Greenwich Village: Music That Defined a Generation combines talking heads with rare archival footage and new live performances to tell a story about a community that created a generation-defining music.

After the screening, JBFC Board President Janet Maslin will lead a conversation and Q&A with David Browne about his book and the revolutionary music scene of 1960s Greenwich village and its legacy.

"A history lesson that holds some pleasures even for those who know its material by heart."
John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporter
"Evokes the flavor of the era just before the music business exploded into a mass-market juggernaut. The film's pleasures are the same ones offered by a sprawling, lavishly illustrated magazine spread."
Stephen Holden, The New York Times
