Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool, adapted from British actor Peter Turner’s memoir of the same name, follows the passionate and tender relationship between award winning actress Gloria Grahame (Annette Bening, 20th Century Women) and the significantly younger Turner (Jamie Bell, Billy Elliot) in 1978 Liverpool. What begins as a vibrant affair between a legendary femme fatale and her young lover quickly grows into something much deeper. As the couple move between Turner’s native Liverpool and Los Angeles, a town that seems increasingly apathetic towards Grahame’s talent, she depends on Turner for comfort and emotional support. However, their connection and lust for life are soon tested by forces beyond their control. Anchored by a breathtaking performance from Bening, filmmaker Paul McGuigan crafts a moving romantic drama that brilliantly pays homage to one of the Golden Age’s biggest stars.
