“Packs an undeniable emotional punch, presenting a fresh viewpoint on its hot-button topic. It’s impossible not to be moved by the courage and tolerance demonstrated.” (The Hollywood Reporter)
Winner of Best Israeli Documentary at the 2018 DocAviv Film Festival.
After more than 15 years in a loving marriage, Amit, a father of four, tells his wife, Galit, and their children that he is a woman and wants to transition. Galit stays with Amit through the whole process, but just as it seems that life is back to normal, Galit shakes everything up again. Ofir Trainin’s intimate documentary stands out in many ways: It shows us a family that does not follow the dictates of their small Israeli city, breaks social conventions, and changes what we thought we knew about gender, equality, parenthood, and being transgender. But most of all, it is a story about a family that redefines acceptance and love of those closest to us.
