Departures

Pre-recorded Q&A with directors Neil Ely and Lloyd Eyre-Morgan followed by a post-screening Happy Hour

When Benji encounters Jake at an airport departures gate, there is instant chemistry they cannot ignore. Inspired by true-life events, what begins as a thrilling monthly getaway to Amsterdam unravels into a relationship with complex power dynamics. Dumped and heartbroken, Benji spirals into addiction and hook-ups. The only way for Benji to move forward, is to go back…

A must-see British comedy-drama created by a collective of working-class LGBT+ filmmakers, Departures is a darkly comic, emotionally charged, raw and raucous story about the dizzying highs of love and the crushing lows of heartbreak. A queer Trainspotting for today.

"There is plenty here for viewers to relate to, whether or not they’ve ever gone to those extremes. There’s also an ample supply of humour, with laugh-out-loud moments occurring in the bleakest situations."
Jennie Kermode, Eye for Film
"This film feels like a Danny Boyle moment, injecting some much-needed dynamism into the genre. This is grass-roots cinema at its best. Stark, moving, edgy and drole, this is a genuinely exceptional feature debut."
Ben Turner, The Pink Lens
