Don’t let the title scare you off. In the hands of filmmaker Justin Schein, this thoroughly engrossing documentary about his father Harvey Schein’s obsession with the estate tax becomes something much larger; a family saga, a story about the promise and pitfalls of the American dream, and a first-hand look at the conflict between a father and son with different ideas about income inequality. Harvey Schein rose from poverty in Depression-era Brooklyn to great success in the music industry at Sony. The same qualities that made him such a success would also lead to deep rifts within his family. Joy Schein, a lifelong modern dancer who married Harvey Schein in the early 1960s (and later divorced him), and is the filmmaker’s mother, will join us for the post-film conversation.

This film is part of the Jewish Film Festival 2026 series.
