Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

Q&A with Melissa Newman (daughter of Paul Newman), moderated by JBFC Board President Janet Maslin

After Brick Pollitt (Paul Newman) injures himself while drunkenly revisiting his high school sports-star days, he and his tempestuous wife, Maggie (Elizabeth Taylor), visit his family’s Mississippi plantation for the 65th birthday of his hot-tempered father, Big Daddy (Burl Ives). Cantankerous even in declining health, Big Daddy demands to know why Brick and Maggie haven’t yet given him a grandchild, unlike Brick’s brother Gooper (Jack Carson) and his fecund wife, Mae (Madeleine Sherwood). Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tennessee Williams.

Join us after the screening for a Q&A with Paul Newman’s daughter, Melissa Newman, moderated by JBFC Board President Janet Maslin.

Copies of Paul Newman’s memoir The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man (foreword by Melissa Newman) will be available for purchase—courtesy of The Village Bookstore—following the Q&A.
